EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE Coronavirus
A frightening new, SARS-related virus has surfaced in Wuhan, China and in less than three weeks, the disease has spread to major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen—as well as to neighboring Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, and South Korea and now, the USA. There are over 40,000 confirmed cases and over 900 people have died. The WHO has now declared this a public health emergency.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF THE CORONAVIRUS?
The coronavirus is airborne and is spread the same way the common cold virus does. When a sick person coughs or sneezes, the droplets become airborne. If you breath in that air, you can become sick as well. Scientists are unsure of how long the air is contaminated for, but to give you an idea, some viruses, such as the measles can remain in the air for as long as 2 hours afterwards. Touching objects that have been touched by infected people can also transmit the disease. Here are the symptoms of the coronavirus:
- Difficulty breathing and shortness of breath
-In severe cases, pneumonia
The only way to confirm the coronavirus is with a lab test. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), symptoms of the coronavirus may appear in as few as two days or as long as 14 after exposure.
How the Coronavirus Affects your Body
HOW YOU CAN PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THE CORONAVIRUS
There is no known vaccine for the coronavirus but here are some ways to protect yourself:
Hand washing is a simple regimen that is frequently overlooked, but it’s your second most effective weapon. To rid the virus from your skin, wash your hands vigorously with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. This should be done a few times a day and the first thing you do when you come home.
Avoid touching your mouth, nose and eyes.
Avoid close contact with anybody who is sick
Maintain a 3 foot distance from you and other people
How an air purifier can kill airborne viruses such as the coronavirus
An air purifier equipped with both a true HEPA filter and an ultraviolet germicidal lamp is the best defense against a wide range of airborne diseases including the coronavirus. Simply having a HEPA filter is not enough to remove microorganisms from your air. The size of the coronavirus is 0.125 microns. A Super HEPA is able to trap 99.99% of microns that are as small as 0.1 is needed to capture this virus. Airpura has incorporated design concepts from the aseptic environment of the operating theater into the design of the UV air purifiers. The UV germicidal lamp is located within the confines of the HEPA filter. When pathogens are drawn into the air purifier, they are trapped onto the surface of the HEPA filter. The pathogens are then flooded by the rays of the UV germicidal lamp which destroy their DNA, effectively killing them. Certain pathogens require more time to eradicate, and this design allows for that. The placement of the UV lamp within the HEPA chamber also ensures that they cannot escape back into your airstream like other purifiers on the market.
Can a face mask protect you from coronavirus?
Face masks have been selling out around the world, but the big question is, can they actually protect you against the coronavirus? The simple answer is no. Face masks are designed to block large particles and droplets, not the small virus particles like the flu or the coronavirus. Masks are also unable to kill the virus droplets that end up on the surface of it. This virus can survive from a few hours to a week which means that wearing a mask containing virus particles can actually make you and others sick. Masks also don't protect your eyes which are also a point of entry for the virus.
coronavirus removal rate: 99.99%
The dual effect of both the HEPA filter and the UV germicidal lamp's performance was tested by an independent laboratory. The study* showed the removal rates of airborne viruses at close to 99.999% rate at 340 CFM. The air purifiers that contain the UV germicidal lamp technology are the Airpura UV600 and the P600.
